I dropped by the One Maker Group (OMG) prototyping lab at the National Design Centre this week. I spent a whole month at this space last year making something for the Singapore maker faire. It is a maker’s den with many tools such as laser cutters and 3D printers.

I caught up with my friend who made some sort of casing for a mobile phone out of laser cut cardboard.

There are still workshops, meet-ups and prototyping going on, but with the new addition of one humongous laser cutter that belched smoke.

I am glad that there is such a space for people like myself who appreciate the convenience of having all the machines and tools in one space, and a conducive environment with like minded individuals and consultants on site to work with. I do wish however, that the space could be bigger, but I also understand the cost constraints with land being so expensive in Singapore.

You can see a picture of me and my teammate in one of the photos on the lower right, below the maker map.

The electronics lab is my dream workspace. I have a smaller version of this at my own work place.
