A farm in Thailand had a problem on missing cargo during lorry transport of rice from the mill to the Bangkok seaport. I led a team to create a GPS tracking prototype to track the cargo during transport. We spent two weeks ideating and developing it, including testing it out at the farm in Thailand. We also experimented with a RFID tracking system with an antenna and tags placed on the boxes. Unfortunately, the signal was blocked by the 14% moisture in the rice. The tracking results were excellent though, and an SMS alert is sent out whenever the truck stopped for more than 20 minutes throughout the 14 hour journey. A SD card stores all location information. We plotted out the truck journey on Google maps. Please see this hackster.io article for more details.
